Birch Tree with Paper Tape

Have you ever used paper tape while drawing? Paper tape (also known as masking tape or washi tape) are made of thinner materials and easy to come off. Because of the adhesive property is not as strong as other tapes, paper tape can be peeled off without damaging the drawing surface. Many artists use these paper tape to cover certain parts of their drawing so that it won’t be exposed by other colors.

Today, we are going to use paper tape to paint birch tree. It is very simple to make and you will be able to follow it. Tools and materials required:

  • Canvas
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paper/masking tape
  • Silver marker
  • Brush
  • Paint pallette
  • Scissors

The Steps!

Step 1.

Starts by placing paper tape on top of the canvas to the top until it looks like tree. To make a larger tree, you can use multiple paper tapes.

Step 2.

For the branches, cut off your paper tapes to make a few smaller sizes. To make the tree looks more detailed, you can cut them as small as you can and as many as you wish.

Step 3.

Once you have done with your tapes, you can start coloring! Mix blue acrylic paints with black or whites with different ratios to create multiple color gradients. The more colors are used, the more lively your drawing will be.

Step 4.

Wait till the paints are dried up, then starts peeling off the paper tapes.

Step 5.

Now we can add more details for the birch tree. Mixed white with a little bit of blue to create shadow effect.

Step 6.

To make stars effect on the sky, use the silver marker and dot them as many as you wish.

Step 7.

Boila! Now your birch tree is complete!

You can try using different colors to create different feel as well.
